LEADERS

Joe Wiles, recently retired as director of missions for Stone Baptist Association in Cookeville. He later accepted a call as pastor of University Heights Baptist Church, Cookeville. Wiles has served in Stone Association for 41 years as a pastor, DOM and BSU (now BCM) director at Tennessee Tech. He also is a former pastor of Silver Point Baptist Church, Silver Point.

Williams Chapel Baptist Church, Springfield, has called Keith Wilson as pastor. He and his wife, Paula, have two children and two grandchildren.

Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, Elizabethton, recently called Danny Loveless as associate pastor and minister of students.

Ricky Lack has resigned as pastor of Siam Baptist Church, Elizabethton.

Danny Davis has resigned as pastor of Lynnwood/Lynnridge Community Mission Church, Elizabethton.

CHURCHES

First Baptist Church, Dickson’s youth choir will present “Living Proof” in concert at First Baptist Church, Etowah, on June 2 at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited. For more information, call FBC, Etowah, at 423-263-2214.

First Baptist Church, Rutherford, will celebrate its 150th anniversary on June 30. The celebration will include worship service, dinner on the grounds and the opening of a time capsule which was buried 50 years ago. Zach McCain is pastor. Former pastors are invited to attend. The Primitive Quartet will sing at Hillview Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, on Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. A love offering will be taken. The church also will celebrate its 219th homecoming on Sunday, June 2. Special music by Bradley Walker, 2018 GMA Dove Award nominee, will start at 9:15 a.m. Former pastor Owen Ivery will bring the morning message.

First Baptist Church, Alexandria, recently held revival services with guest evangelist Floyd “Lammie” Lammersfeld of McKenzie. There were three professions of faith. Billie Friel is pastor of FBC.

DEATHS

Angela Holder, chair of the music department of Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City, died May 12. Holder, who also was associate professor of music, joined the C-N faculty in 2003. Along with being a member of the voice faculty, she was director of Redemption, the university’s Christian contemporary group sponsored by the music department. She was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, Knoxville. She is survived by her husband, Tim.

Clara Jeanette Thomas, 94, of Powell died May 12. She was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, Knoxville. Thomas served as the Knox County Association of Baptists WMU director and as a member of the executive board of Tennessee Woman’s Missionary Union.

Participating in the recent Unplugged Retreat, a 24-hour experience designed to invest into the lives of pastors and wives, was held in April at the Church Support Center in Franklin. Brentwood Baptist Church, Brentwood, celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 13, alongside the city of Brentwood, which celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 15. Beginning as a small mission in the chapel of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home on Franklin Road, the church was constituted on Sunday, April 13, 1969. The church has grown from 65 people to more than 12,000 members on eight campuses and has had only two pastors in its history – William “Bill” Wilson (1969-1990) and Mike Glenn (1991-present). Christina and pastor Lee Hickman of Black Oak Baptist Church, Clinton, are pictured on either side of Hailey Schultz, Thompson’s fiancé and Matthew Thompson, who was ordained May 5 as associate pastor of preaching. Hickman is the second vice president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
The Noah’s Ark Widows Ministry of Ethridge First Baptist Church each year sponsors an annual Hikers Ministry to hikers on the Appalachian Trail. This year’s team consisted of Kay Stoneburner, Sally Riley, Fay Dodson, Jody Konig, Kay Parker, Janet Rae Franks, Janet Haun and Diane Hildenbrandt. They ministered to more than 80 hikers.
