LEADERS

First Baptist Church, Tullahoma, has called Kevin Ivy as pastor. He previously served at Providence Baptist Church in Clinton, Miss. He also is the founder of a non-profit ministry called Mission Surge and has been personally involved in missions work in 11 countries and across the United States.

Wayne Stowers is the new minister of students at First Baptist Church, Decherd.

Johnny Mayes has been called as pastor of Oaklawn Baptist Church, Winchester. He previously served at Mount View Baptist Church, Trinity, Ala.

Fellowship Baptist Church, Milan, recently called Eddie Holmes as pastor.

John Netland, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Union University in Jackson since 2013, has been named the university’s provost, effective Oct. 16. He joined the Union faculty in 2008 as chairman of the English department.

John Adams recently began serving as interim pastor of Spring Hill Baptist Church, Trenton.

Scott Parkinson, senior pastor of Stevens Street Baptist Church, Cookeville, will be nominated by Mark Puckett, director of missions for Duck River Baptist Association, to serve as president-elect of the Tennessee Baptist Pastors Conference at their meeting in November. Daryl Crouch, senior pastor of Green Hill Baptist Church, Mount Juliet, will be nominated by Chuck Groover, pastor of Victory Baptist Church, Mount Juliet, to serve as secretary-treasurer. Nominations for both offices can also be made from the floor. The Pastors Conference will be held on Monday, Nov. 13, at First Baptist Church, Hendersonville.

Holly Grove Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, recently celebrated its 115th year in ministry in Rutherford County. The church has called W.D. Thomason as interim pastor.

Pine Springs Baptist Church, Greeneville, recently called Robert Prater of Alabama as pastor.

Glenn Franklin of Sevierville recently accepted the call as pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Newport.

DEATHS

Carolyn Houston Boyd died Sept. 20 in Franklin after a three-and-a-half year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). A native of Memphis, she was the wife of Sam Boyd, pastor of Forest Hills Baptist Church, Nashville. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, and nine grandchildren.

CHURCHES

East Niota Baptist Church, Niota, will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 29. All former pastors and members are invited to attend. Wayne Bryant will be preaching.

Lincoln Heights Baptist Church, Tullahoma, celebrated 65 years of ministry with a Back to Church/Homecoming event on Sept. 17. The message was given by Wallace Rowland.

Mount Horeb Baptist Church, Ethridge, will host the “Pig and Pumpkin” family event on Oct. 21. Events begin at 4 p.m. with a meal at 5 p.m.

Copperas Branch Baptist Church, Leoma, will have a fall meeting Oct. 18-22 with Stacey Layne of Morganton, N.C., as speaker. The Zac Watson family from Gainesville, Ga., will sing. Each service begins at 7 p.m., except the Sunday morning service which begins at 10:30 a.m. with a meal to follow.

First Baptist Church, Ethridge, held homecoming Oct. 1 with former pastor Randy Nelson preaching and special music by New Beginning.

Buchanan Baptist Church, Buchanan, will hold revival services Oct. 22-25 at 7 p.m. each night with guest speaker Steve Littleton.

Laneview Baptist Church, Kenton, recently held revival with evangelist Floyd “Lammie” Lammersfeld. There were three professions of faith.

North Knoxville Baptist Church, Knoxville, recently celebrated the 96th birthday of Goneau Heath, the oldest member of the church. She became a member in 1951 after being baptized. She served as secretary for 25 years and was a teacher for many years. With her are Jerry Cate, music director, and Joe Emmert, pastor.
Eva Baptist Church, Eva, held a centennial celebration on their 100th anniversary as a church. Six teams from New Duck River Baptist Association, based in Shelbyville and covering Bedford, Marshall, and Moore counties, traveled to the remote villages of Kotzebue, Ambler, and Shungnak, Alaska, between June 20 and July 21. Forty-one participants from 11 different churches were the hands and feet of Jesus to the remote villages, according to director of missions Tim Key. There were numerous opportunities to share Christ in the villages, leading to at least six professions of faith and many recommitments. The children were very responsive during the times the teams had in Bible studies, Bible school, and basketball camp studies. Etter Baptist Church, Byrdstown, celebrated its 125th Anniversary of faithful service in ministry on Sept. 24. A plaque from the Historical Commission of the Tennessee Baptist Convention was presented on their behalf by Bro. Chris Ward, director of missions for Riverside Baptist Association, based in Livingston, to pastor Eric Thoman. The church celebrated with a special service and dinner at the church.
Greenwood Baptist Chur- ch, Ooltewah, recently recognized Peggy Roark for 25 years of faithful service as church secretary. “She is one of the most humble, meek, and kind servants of Christ that I have ever known,” said senior pastor Chad Chandler (pictured with Roark). “Her worth is most certainly ‘far above rubies’ and ‘her own works praise her in the gates’ (Proverbs 31:10, 31). We love her and are thankful for all she does in the life of our church family. We are blessed.”
(cont'd) Many seeds were planted. The results continue to amaze the many who went to be on mission this summer and most will return, Key said. Aquillaq Baptist Mission in Ambler was built in 1954 as the original Baptist mission in the area.
