DEATHS

Ronnie Arnold

Ronnie Arnold, who served as pastor of Cedar Hill Baptist Church, LaFollette, for 31 years until his retirement last year, died Dec. 20 after a battle with cancer. Arnold also served as a pastor in Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Arnold; four children and five grandchildren.

James Daniel of Bruceton died Dec. 1. He was a graduate of Union University, Jackson, and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Mo. He served as pastor of churches in West and Middle Tennessee and in Missouri. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Melton Daniel, two children, eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter

Retired Major Mayford Clay McCarter Jr., 86, of Arthur, died Dec. 29. McCarter served for 24 years in the U.S. Army. During active duty he received two Bronze Star medals, the Vietnam service medal with Silver Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, Army of Occupation medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. After retirement from the military he served as collegiate minister at  Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate from 1980-99.

Ron Hawkins, retired campus minister, died Jan. 5 at the age of 78. Hawkins served at the University of Memphis from 1977-97 and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center from 1997-2008.
