New Middleton Baptist Church, New Middleton, will hold revival services Aug. 27-30 with guest evangelist Nathan Wilkerson.

Little Flat Creek Baptist Church, Corryton, will celebrate its 220th homecoming on Aug. 20. A dedication service will be held for the church’s renovated sanctuary. Lunch will follow the service. Robert Baltimore is pastor.

Liberty Baptist Church, Somerville, held revival services July 23-26 with evangelist Phil Glisson of Memphis.

West Shiloh Baptist Church, Stantonville, will host four “Spiritual Saturdays in September” beginning at 5:30 p.m. each night. Meadow View Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg, will hold revival services Aug. 13-16 with evangelist Don Singleton of Selmer.

Range Hills Baptist Church, Memphis, will have revival services Aug. 25-27 with evangelist Phil Glisson of Memphis.

Flewellyn Baptist Church, Springfield, will celebrate homecoming on Aug. 27. Tim Miles of Wilhite Baptist Church, Cookeville, will be the guest speaker. A covered dish lunch will follow the morning service.

DEATHS

Leonard C. Rader, pastor of Green River Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, for more than 25 years, died July 16 after a strong fight with cancer. Rader was a former member of the Executive Board (now Tennessee Baptist Mission Board) and wrote Sunday School lessons for the Baptist and Reflector. He also served as senior chaplain for the Smyrna Police Department and StoneCrest Medical Center and he is survived by his wife, Linda (a former staff member with Tennessee Woman’s Missionary Union), three daughters, and seven grandchildren.

LEADERS

First Baptist Church, Huntingdon, voted July 16 to call Jacob Harris as pastor. Harris has served as pastor to families and young adults at Kirby Woods Baptist Church in Memphis since 2014. A native of Independence, Mo., Harris is a graduate of Mississippi College, Clinton; Mid-American Baptist Theological Seminary, Cordova; and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky., where he earned his doctorate. Harris also has served churches in Mississippi, Georgia, and Virginia. He and his wife Kelli have four children.

Mark Whitt is the new collegiate ministry specialist at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. Whitt served as minister of youth and college students at Westside Baptist Church in Murray, Ky., before becoming the campus minister at Murray State University. He most recently served as collegiate/young adult specialist at LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville. He and his wife Lisa have two children. They are members of Calvary Baptist Church, Murfreesboro.

Mount Olive Baptist Church (South), Knoxville, called Kirby Ownby as senior pastor on June 11. Originally from the Chattanooga area, Ownby and his wife Libby have two sons, Ethan and Kaden.

Ebenezer Baptist Church, Greenbrier, has called Chad Phelan as pastor. He and his wife Sarah began their ministry at the church on July 2.

Rock Springs Baptist Church, Greenbrier, has called Michael Mitcham as full-time youth minister.

ASSOCIATIONS

McMinn-Meigs Baptist Association, based in Athens, will hold a prayer conference at East Athens Baptist Church in Athens on Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. Don Pierson, pastor of Stewarts Chapel Baptist Church, Flintville, will speak. He formerly served as a missionary with the International Mission Board and was prayer specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.

A missions team from Fayette Baptist Association, based in Somerville, recently returned from Oklahoma where volunteers from six different churches served in the Cherokee Indian Nation, helping to lead church revivals, Vacation Bible School, and block parties. They also did some construction in the Cherokee Baptist Camp.

Zion Baptist Church, Benton, served in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 15-22. The team, consisting of 28 volunteers led by pastor Mike Hazlewood, conducted block parties, health screenings, barbeques, and community canvassing on behalf of five new church starts in the city.
A group from New Grove Baptist Church, Ardmore, traveled to Belize July 7-14 to do Vacation Bible School, evangelism, ministry, and construction. More than 30 children made professions of faith during VBS and several adults were saved in evangelistic events. (cont'd)
Sarah Freeman recently celebrated her 104th birthday at Whitehaven Baptist Church in Memphis. Helping to celebrate the event was her pastor Jim Meredith. Freeman, who has been a member of the church since 1949, still teaches a children’s Sunday School class, serves the Wednesday evening meal, and attends a weekly exercise class. She is the mother of former Tennessee Baptist Convention president Roger Freeman, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Nashville.

A group of 12 volunteers from Big Hatchie Baptist Association in Covington recently spent a week serving Faith Baptist Fellowship in Rigby, Idaho. They held a Mega Sports Camp for children in the community and assisted pastor Scott Plath and the church in their ministry.
