TEBOW KICKS OFF ‘BIG WEEKEND’ IN MAURY COUNTY

COLUMBIA — Football player Tim Tebow was among the featured speakers on the opening night of “The Big Weekend” in Maury County. 

Tebow spoke at a worship service at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Columbia. 

The Big Weekend — formerly known as Disciple Now —  was held as a regional event in the Maury County area, with youth from more than 10 churches, representing 19 schools, coming together.   

Twelve of the participants made professions of faith, and numerous other rededications and decisions were recorded.

“It was incredibly exciting,” said  Ryan McMichael, youth pastor at First Baptist Church, Columbia, the host church for the event. “Of course we tried to be safe and take every reasonable precaution, but students have been so hungry for community, connection and unity, and we saw so much of that this weekend through worship, service and fellowship.”

Willie McLaurin, vice president for Great Commission relations and mobilization at the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee and a former staff member at the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, is currently serving as transitional interim pastor at FBC Columbia.

Tebow played in the NFL from 2011-2012, seeing action with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. He then played minor league baseball (with the New York Mets organization) from 2017-2021. He recently returned to football, signing a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. 

Tebow is the founder of “Night to Shine” — a nationwide prom-type event for teens with special needs.  B&R
