TBMB DIRECTORS ADOPT RECOMMENDATIONS

By Lonnie Wilkey Editor, Baptist and Reflector FRANKLIN — The board of directors of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board have approved expanding the definition of a cooperating Baptist church to include those churches that give through the Tennessee Baptist Convention portion of the Cooperative Program budget without restriction or designation. The action was one of several recommendations adopted by the TBMB directors during their meeting Sept. 12 in Franklin.

That’s especially true as Tennessee Baptists respond to disaster relief needs such as we’ve seen this year with the Gatlinburg fires and Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

TBC CP GIVING HOLDS STEADY

Baptist and Reflector FRANKLIN — Tennessee Baptist Convention churches gave a total of $2,683,692 through the Cooperative Program in July. For the year-to-date, Tennessee Baptists have given $25,524,540, a decrease of $474,241 or 1.8 percent over that given during the same time frame last year. With three months left in the 2016-17 fiscal year, receipts are $725,460 or 2.8 percent below budget needs.

BELLEVUE, BETHEL LEAD IN COOPERATIVE PROGRAM

Baptist and Reflector FRANKLIN – Bellevue Baptist Church, Cordova, and Bethel Baptist Church, Greenfield, were leaders among Tennessee Baptist Convention churches in Cooperative Program giving in 2016. Bellevue Baptist gave $937,531 through the Cooperative Program during the 2016 convention year. They actually became the first TBC church to give $1 million over a 12-month period (from April 2016 through March 2017).

IMB TRUSTEES APPOINT 31 MISSIONARIES

Baptist Press PHOENIX — Through Southern Baptists’ “faithful, generous and consistent giving” of more than $98 million to the Cooperative Program and approximately $153 million to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, the International Mission Board has reached financial stability, IMB President David Platt told the entity’s trustees June 12. “That’s breathtaking: over $250 million given from Southern Baptist churches for the spread of the gospel among the nations,” Platt said.
