SIX CHURCHES, ONE VOICE

SEYMOUR — In a display of unity that went beyond individual church walls, Seymour First Baptist Church and five neighboring congregations joined together for a worship night on Feb. 23 that drew more than 600 attendees.

Seymour FBC pastor Corey Cain described the event as a vivid reminder that local churches stand as partners, not competitors.

“We get to celebrate the unique personality, style, and feel of each church and pastor, while appreciating that we all respect each other and work together toward something greater than growing our individual churches — expanding God’s kingdom,” said Cain. 

The night featured a powerful 140-voice choir and 30-piece orchestra drawn from five local congregations, including Shiloh Baptist, Oak City, Zion Hill, Valley Grove, and Grace Baptist. 

For Cain, the night reached an emotional peak during a contemporary arrangement of the traditional hymn “Be Thou My Vision,” performed just before Jeff Iorg, president of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, delivered a message on church health based on Acts 11. 

“It’s an older hymn with a modern twist that resonated with everyone, both for the song itself and because it captures our shared vision: to honor and praise God while allowing Him to guide both our churches and our individual spiritual journeys,” said Cain. 

The event’s revival-like atmosphere has already prompted organizers to plan for next year, where they hope to build on this moment of Christian fellowship in the community. B&R
