FRANKLIN — East Tennessee minister Travis Henderson will be nominated as vice president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention during the annual meeting which will be at The Summit, Nov. 14-17, at Brentwood Baptist Church, Brentwood.

Gene Nelson, pastor of Russellville Baptist Church, Russellville, told the Baptist and Reflector on Nov. 5 that he would  nominate Henderson, currently pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, Mohawk. Henderson will be transitioning to Knoxville in the next few weeks to become director of Montgomery Baptist Center, a ministry of Knox County Baptist Association.

Travis Henderson

“Travis and I have become friends in the four years he has served as pastor of Fairview Baptist. Over these four years I have seen Travis’ heart for the lost and his deep desire for Kingdom work. A couple months ago Travis shared with me that God had put the phrase “unto the least of these” in his heart.  It was a phrase that He could not get away from.

“From that, God called Travis and his family to leave a church that loves him deeply, and to transition into his new role to minister to residents of a low income housing development,” Nelson added.

A native of Knoxville, Henderson has served as pastor of churches in Tennessee and North Carolina, including Glenwood Baptist Church in Knoxville. He has been active in the local associations where he has served and in the communities as well. For the past three years, he has served on the Committee on Boards of the Tennessee Baptist Convention and is currently chairman. He also has served as a Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief volunteer.

Henderson is the third announced candidate for TBC offices. Previously announced nominees include Clay Hallmark, pastor of First Baptist Church, Lexington, for president and Scott Brown, pastor of First Baptist Church, Waverly, for second vice president. Nominees for any of the offices may be nominated from the floor during the time for officer elections. B&R
