Charles Nored, Baptist Collegiate Ministries director, Motlow State Community College, Lynchburg, was honored recently by the Tennessee Baptist Convention staff on his 35th anniversary as a staff member. He has served Motlow State since 2004, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, from 1985-2004; and Walters State Community College, Morristown, from 1981-85. Nored is a graduate of Delta State University, Cleveland, Miss., and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas.

Ben Maddox is serving as Baptist Collegiate Ministries director, Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville. Maddox formerly was Baptist Student Union director, Mississippi College, Clinton, for six years and BCM director for four colleges in Little Rock, Ark., for four years. Maddox is a graduate of Valdosta (Ga.) State University and New Orleans (La.) Baptist Theological Seminary.
Benny Taylor has served as pastor of South Side Baptist Church, Savannah, for 36 years as of Feb. 14.
Luis Lopez was called as coordinator for Hispanic work, Robertson County Baptist Association, based in Springfield, effective Feb. 1. Formerly he was Hispanic ministry coordinator for Long Hollow Baptist Church, Hendersonville, and Español church resources director, LifeWay Christian Resources, Nashville.
Barren Plains Baptist Church, Springfield, has called Frank Evans as interim pastor.
Epiphany Baptist Church, Springfield, has called Cody Dean as pastor.
Michael Roberson, pastor, Clear Creek Baptist Church, Dyer, will be ordained to the ministry Feb. 28 at the church at 3 p.m.
Clayton Williams has re-signed as pastor, Oakwood Baptist Church, Milan, and James Rogers has been called as interim pastor.
Truth Baptist Church, Milan, has called David Featherston as pastor.
Dwight Porter has been called as music worship leader, Mount Gilead Baptist Church, Bethel Springs. He formerly was in a similar role at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Dyer.
ASSOCIATIONS
The Holston Baptist Association Student Conference 2016, “I Am, I Am — Isaiah 44:6,” will be March 18-20. Todd Friel will speak and Bean and Bailey, a comedy group, will perform along with worship led by Bellarive. The association is based in Johnson City. Duck River Baptist Association, New Duck River Baptist Association, and William Carey Baptist Association, will hold a One-Day Pastor’s Retreat Feb. 27. It is entitled, “Stoking Your Spiritual Passion.” The retreat will be held at the Baptist Collegiate Ministries center at Motlow State Community College, Tullahoma. First Baptist Church, Adamsville, will build a new building which will include classrooms, a choir room, and a nursery, reported Chad Ball, senior pastor.

DEATHS
Alfred Tennyson Royer, 90, retired pastor, died Jan. 31 in Knoxville. He was a pastor for 43 years serving churches including Glenwood Baptist Church, Knoxville; Grace Baptist Church, Knoxville; First Baptist Church, Shelbyville; and Palm Springs Baptist Church, West Palm Beach, Fla. In retirement Royer was an active member of Central Baptist Church, Bearden, Knoxville. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Theo; two sons; and four grandchildren.
- This Sunday School class of Charleston Baptist Church, Stanton, show Blessing Bags they prepared for homeless people. The bags will be available in the foyer of the church for distribution by church members, reported Marilyn Means of Charleston Baptist. The bags include snacks, bottled water, toiletries, a note from the students, and a truelife.org card.
- Members of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Mount Juliet, pause during their volunteer work at Joseph’s Storehouse in Lebanon on Jan. 30. The storehouse is a ministry which offers food and Christian counseling to needy people. The church supports the ministry though it also offers a food pantry as well as a coat closet. - Ralph Benningfield, left, pastor, Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Sparta, is congratulated by James Hickey, director of missions, Union Baptist Association, based in Sparta recently. Benningfield retired recently as pastor. He formerly was DOM, Union Association, from 1973-76. Benningfield was in the ministry for 66 years.
