TBDR ISSUES FLOOD RECOVERY CALLOUT FOR CHATTANOOGA AREA

Baptist and Reflector

FRANKLIN — Wes Jones, disaster relief specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, issued a callout on Aug. 21 for flood recovery teams who can respond to needs in the Chattanooga area.

“There are 15 open jobs that need to be filled by local or nearby teams,” Jones said in an email.

Historic rainfall inundated roads across Chattanooga in mid-August. Part of an interstate was shut down, and dozens of people were rescued from flooded homes and sinking cars, he noted.

Jones asked teams to bring a chaplain. Teams that don’t have a chaplain should contact Jones.

He asked that teams and individuals do not self-deploy. Teams need to be currently credentialed before deployment.

DR volunteers and teams were reminded to use FormStack (roster and daily reports).

The TBDR said all Tennessee Baptists can be in prayer for the following:

  • Pray that God will wrap his arms around those affected to comfort them.
  • Pray that those who do not know Christ would come to know Him.
  • Pray for all those who will be responding that equipment will work correctly, and everyone will be safe.

Those who are available to serve should contact Jones ([email protected]), Garry Maddox ([email protected]) or Elizabeth Holmes ([email protected]) and let them know your unit type and when you are available to come. Once a team has committed to serve, details will be sent, Jones said.
