MOUNT JULIET — Four teens were winners or runners-up in the 2017 State Youth Bible Drill and High School Bible Drill held May 6 here.
Hope Bone of First Baptist Church, Columbia, won the Youth Bible Drill and Caitlyn Crook of Auburntown Baptist Church, Auburntown, was runner-up. In the High School Drill, Brittany Forrest of Prospect Baptist Church, Hollow Rock, won and Lindsey Hedrick of Alder Branch Baptist Church, Sevierville, earned the runner-up spot.
The state drills were held at the Missions Mobilization Center of the Tennessee Baptist Convention in Mount Juliet.
Donna Blaydes, preschool/Bible drill specialist, Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, who directs the drills, said each church is encouraged to hold a church drill for drillers, after which participants advance to a drill in their local Baptist association.
Those scoring the required points advance to one of eight regional drills. The first place winner of each of the regional drills advances to the state drill.
Bible Drill is a discipleship program designed to teach students how to use their Bibles and to encourage them to hide God’s Word in their hearts, said Blaydes. Bible Drill is a three-tier program beginning with Children’s Bible Drill for those in grades 4-6. Students in grades 7-9 participate in Youth Bible Drill, and those in grades 10-12 in High School Bible Drill.
The state High School Bible Drill winner, Brittany Forrest, received a scholarship certificate from Union University, Jackson, and Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City, the two colleges associated with the TBC.
